Solar Light Installation & Operation

How to set up and install your solar light

Leave the solar light in its box until the batteries are installed; this protects the LEDs underneath. Save the box for storing the light and for protection when you change batteries. Take the batteries out of the package and set them aside.

Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the 4 Phillips screws on top of the solar light.

Lift off the top solar cover and set it beside the bottom section, careful not to disconnect or damage the wiring.

Remove the battery cover and install the batteries provided. Slide the battery box cover back on and snap it into place (no screw needed). Use AA solar rechargeable NiCd, 1000 mA only. Do not use standard AA batteries. Re-install the top cover with the 4 screws without pinching any wires, and tighten until the rubber washers compress. This helps keep water out.

Attach the light to your flagpole: remove the nut on the post of the gold ball or eagle, put the post through the light, re-attach the nut under the light, and thread the ball firmly onto the top of the flagpole. Check periodically for loosening.

It may take several sunny days to fully charge the batteries. The LEDs turn on and off automatically. On cloudy days the light gets less charge, so it will light your flag less that night. Below-freezing temperatures also reduce light output. This is a solar product and needs direct sunlight to operate.

Battery information

  1. If you store the solar light, remove the batteries and store them in a cool, dry place.
  2. Rechargeable batteries are less efficient below freezing. Shade from trees, bushes or buildings reduces charging. The included batteries are not covered under warranty.
  3. Replacement batteries are sold locally, or call us. Take a battery with you to the store so you buy the same type: AA solar rechargeable NiCd, 1000 mA.
  4. Always check that batteries face the proper direction.
  5. Artificial light will not charge the batteries; only direct sunlight will.

Eagle owners

Step photo

If your eagle ornament has a 5"–6" stem, remove the gold ball from the eagle's shaft before threading it through the solar light. With a stem longer than 6", the gold ball can stay on. It's normal for the light to turn freely on the eagle or ball shaft. Use the nut under the light to hold it in place, and check the eagle periodically for loosening from the wind.

Warranty

The solar light is warranted by its manufacturer to the original purchaser to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for two (2) years from the date of purchase, when used as intended as a solar light on top of a flagpole. Keep your receipt for proof of purchase. Defective parts will be repaired or replaced at no charge for parts and labor; you pay shipping both ways. To start a warranty claim, contact Off Duty Flagpoles.

Exceptions: damage or defects caused by negligence, use other than as a solar light on a flagpole, accident, improper installation, or acts of God are not covered. The batteries are included as a convenience and are not covered, nor is damage caused by the batteries. There are no other warranties, express or implied.
